Another trail that you should definitely check out in the winter is the Rainbow Falls Trail. At Rainbow Falls, when the temperatures drop below freezing for a couple of days water freezes to the side of the waterfall making for a spectacular view. However, if it isn’t cold enough to do that during your visit, on sunny afternoons Rainbow Falls displays a beautiful rainbow in the mist that comes off of it.

3. Cross-Country Skiing

When snow covers the mountains many other great winter activities in Gatlinburg open up for you to enjoy. One, in particular, is cross-country skiing off of Newfound Gap Road. During the winter, Clingmans Dome Road closes and is the perfect road to go cross-country skiing or hiking down. Along the way, you will see breathtaking winter sights that will blow your mind.

During the winter, Gatlinburg’s Winter Magic lights program transform Gatlinburg into a brilliant spectacle of seasonal delight. With caroling, a big parade a special celebrations and fireworks, you will definitely not be disappointed. If you book your trip during New Year’s Eve, there is an amazing celebration in downtown Gatlinburg that include a ball drop and fireworks being shot off of the Gatlinburg Space Needle.
