Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales

Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales

This seventh annual presentation of Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales is back by popular demand! It will be held in downtown Gatlinburg on June 21, 2013 and run through August 11; and, just like every year, it will bring the music and performances that everyone—Gatlinburg resident or no—truly enjoys! This event is a summer-long street performance event that consists of storytellers, artisans portraying historical characters, and even costumed musical performers. The event takes place up and down the streets of Gatlinburg, so all you have to do is walk outside your front door or a short drive from your rental cabin and you are right in the middle of it, no ticket required!

Smoky Mountain Tunes and TalesBut why, exactly, is this event held in the streets, you may ask? Well, besides the accessibility and fun, it also highlights one of Gatlinburg’s greatest assets—the walkability of the community. With scenic surroundings, a climate that’s to die for, and one of the most beautiful towns in Tennessee, walking around Gatlinburg can be almost as fun and interesting as taking part in the yearly events hosted here. By adding an event that provides guests with an educational, entertaining and interactive experience that the whole family can enjoy, just by walking around, this event highlights this exact strength, showing once more how amazing this town is.

As for the event itself, the performers and personalities arrive nightly at 6 p.m. in the center of town. At this time, viewers will witness a transformation unlike any other, as normal sidewalks turn into stages, and the characters begin their nightly story telling romp until 11 p.m. Throughout each evening, visitors will be treated to as many as 12 acts, in addition to the many characters milling about the streets.

From trios, to duos, single acts, to clogging groups, each night is filled with festivities, acting and live musical performances. You will be treated to many nights of fun, as well as many nights of music, including the pure Appalachian sounds of Rattlesnake Holler, Hammer & Strings, and the Whiskey bent Boys, and many more! All in all, summer nights in Gatlinburg are something you cannot miss!
